Crigglestone All Blacks 48 Park Amateurs 6
Crigglestone continued their fine start to the new season with another comprehensive victory, this time over Park Amateurs. Two early errors by Crigg gave the Halifax side plenty of possession, but the home side withstood the pressure. After a tight start, the break came on 13 minutes from a penalty for a high shot. Tim Owens took a quick tap and barged over to make it 4-0.
Poor handling from Crigg soon after gifted the ball to Park Amateurs, who took full advantage and with swift handling were over for a converted try. Crigg responded well, but blew two good chances before fullback Kev Marson collected a kick and made fifty yards before being hauled down. From the play the ball Adam Hyman and Tom Malyan traded passes through a bemused defence before Malyan scored by the touchline. He converted his own try to put Crigg back in front 10-6.
From the restart Ryan Horsley caught the ball and broke the defensive line. His pass was collected by the supporting Mick Wood who scored his first of the afternoon. Malyan again converted and added a penalty shortly after to make it 18-6 at half-time.
Early in the second half, the referee awarded a controversial knock-on against Tom Malyan close to the Crigg line. Park Amateurs however knocked on from their own scrum and great handling from Horsley, Hyman, Malyan and Haydn Luke sent Luke Johnson over for the next try. Malyan's goal made it 24-6.
The home supporters had to wait until the hour mark for the next try, when Crigg handled eight times before Andrew Webber touched down near the sticks to make Malyan's conversion straightforward. Shortly after Danny Lockwood broke clear and raced 60 yards before scoring, although the try of the game came on 70 minutes as Crigg threw the ball about Harlem Globetrotters' style, including a Nigel Wood back-flip that saw Luke go over.
The final try came on 75 minutes as Crigg ran the length of the field before Mick Wood went over and Malyan's scored his eighth goal of the day.
