Crigglestone All Blacks 14 Illingworth 14
The spoils were even at the end of a well contested game with both teams within a shout of victory.
Crigg will probably feel more aggrieved at dropping a point as the drop goal attempt for victory fell to pieces in the last minute.
The first 20 minutes were scoreless as both side took turns to apply pressure. Both defences were outstanding and players put their bodies on the line on many occasions. Illingworth broke the deadlock with an unconverted try which sparked the game into life.
Crigg's Andrew Webber finally broke free and raced 70 metres to an open line but with 10 to go was either shot by a sniper or went down mysteriously Devon Lock style. More pressure on the visitors line saw all attempts to cross repelled with both DaleTilford and Haydn Luke held short.
With the wind and slope on their backs, Crigg offered more and a 50 break by Joe Meecham saw Damian Horsley feed on to brother player coach Ryan and with To Malyan's goal, take the lead in the 50th minute.
It was then the visitors turn to add the pressure and a cross field kick saw their second unconverted try out wide.
The see-saw continued with Tom Andrews breaking clear with two strong hand offs and Mick Wood rounded off the move to score, Malyan's goal moved the score back to 12-8.
Crigg then spilled the ball twice near the line but Illingworth spilled four chances so both teams were feeling the pressure. A clear break down the left wing saw Scott Hartness race back and pull off a cover tackle that probably saved the point for Crigg. Illingworth gained three penalties in row and despite calls of forward pass and obstruction, a try was given and the visitors levelled matters.
Crigg took the lead again with a penalty in front of the posts but matters were levelled when the referee reciprocated for the visitors to share the spoils. The point moves Crigg to third in Division 1 Pennine League.
